Freeport High School Parent Teacher Student Organization

The Freeport High School PTSO (Parent Teacher Student Organization) provides a vital link between the school faculty, students, and their parents. We provide a forum through meetings and programs for parents to discuss and explore issues relating to their children's education and life. It is a great way for parents to contribute and be involved in their student's high school education. Email melissa4fhs@gmail.com to receive the future meeting links.

Hall Pass Changes:
FHS classrooms have shifted to a digital hall pass system called Orange Pass.  All students sign out digitally to leave class for any reason.  This system is replacing our paper sign out system and helps to monitor the location of our students and the "traffic" during class periods in the hallways.  We have added Faculty Hall Monitors this year as well to help maintain the safety of the halls and school building.  If you have any questions about the online pass system or logistics of the building, please reach out to Principal Jen Gulko (gulkoj@rsu5.org) or Asst. Principal Charlie Mellon (mellonc@rsu5.org).

Dental Clinic at FHS:

Greater Portland Health's Children’s Oral Health Program provides dental services on-site at Freeport High School. By enrolling your child, you provide them with access to on-site dental cleanings with a Greater Portland Health Dental Hygienist.

Please complete the Children’s Oral Health Program Enrollment Form at the following link - Enrollment Form - to allow your student to receive dental cleanings at their school. Enrollment is optional and open to all students, regardless of where they get their primary care.

If you filled out a dental enrollment form for your child last year and they remain in a Cumberland County School District, you do not need to complete a new one. If you have any questions, please call 207-874-2141 option 7, visit our website, or contact your school nurse’s office (guyere@rsu5.org).

Annual Juried Youth Art Exhibit at FCL

Freeport High School returns to Freeport Community Library every April with an explosion of color and form. The library will be filled with approximately 80 student works that fall into one of four categories: drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. This exhibit includes the works of 9th to 12th grade students from a variety of studio art courses. The juried April RSU5 exhibit is sponsored annually by the Freeport Woman’s Club, and they and FCL staff would like to thank art teacher Kimberly Medsker-Mehalic for her work in assembling this event each year. Head to the main reading room in the library during normal business hours and soak in the diverse talent and social commentary that make up this incredible exhibit!

This month-long exhibit is free and open to the public. For questions or directions to the library, call 207-865-3307.

Volunteers Needed - ESOL Classes

Laugh & Learn Updates

Our Preschoolers are continuing their journey of learning about different cultures around the world. This year, they’ve stamped their classroom passports in Mexico, Thailand, Germany, Canada, China, Ireland, Egypt and will “travel” to the Netherlands in April! We’re fortunate to be able to learn about different cultures throughout the year in Preschool, on top of our literacy and numeracy awareness that we work on in Preschool!

In Before and After care, we’ve officially packed up our sleds and bulky winter gear and now, it’s on to puddle season. We’ve enjoyed nicer weather and shifted some of our interests to outdoor games, and talks of spring.

Registration for the coming school year is now open! Visit the Laugh & Learn page on our website for more details and to begin the registration process;

Laugh & Learn programs are growing so fast that we’re looking to add more teachers to our team! You can view and apply for this fun and fulfilling position by visiting this link. Questions? Please reach out to: ChildhoodEd@rsu5.org
